2eme Battalion, Régiment de Guyenne Continued

Uniform
The Régiment de Guyenne wore the white justaucorps that was standard for the French line infantry, with red distinctives and brass buttons. Britches were white, and the waistcoat was red. The black cocked hat was laced with false gold; for undress, a white forage cap trimmed in red was substituted. Presumably because the uniform was very plan to begin with, it was not changed or simplified when the 2eme battalion was sent to Nouvelle France. However, from 1757 the 2eme Battalion did add a collar to the justaucorps; this was red to match the facing colour already carried on the cuffs.
Weapons comprised the standard 1728 Fusil d’Infanterie with bayonet, and a straight-bladed epée de soldat (hanger). In Nouvelle France, privates of fusilier companies soon replaced the epée with a more practical tomahawk, and for campaign service additional kit was issued including a capot and mitasses (leggings).

Re-enacting
In that NFOE’s contingent of metropolitan line currently consists of myself, there is no group as such to re-enact the Régiment de Guyenne. However, I would be happy to hear from anyone else interested in portraying this, or any other of the metropolitan line regiments serving in Nouvelle France and will offer any help that I can.
